BAJ January 14th: "Free Speech versus the New McCarthyism" and Tom Neilson and Lynn Waldron performance January 24th in Raleigh

Two different versions of the announcement; slightly edited:

 7:30 pm Tuesday, January 14,
at the Community Church of Chapel Hill
                   106 Purefoy Road

Balance and Accuracy in Journalism presents

Free Speech vs. the New McCarthyism

Sharply divergent realities compete for our trust.
LA burns while “Drill Baby Drill” rules.
Can schools and universities be sidelined
while human rights and a liveable climate are wrecked?

Michael Schwalbe , Professor Emeritus, North Carolina State University

Toby Posel , Co-founder, TransparUNCy, UNC-Chapel Hill

Lily Roth , Students for Justice in Palestine  Member,   UNC-Chapel Hill

Our January 14 panel features free speech amid campus protests.
Sociologist Michael Schwalbe has written extensively about the issues,
and two students... Toby Posel and Lily, are engaged  in free speech struggles
at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Schwalbe points to threats to free speech  arising from
selective application of newly invented bureaucratic rules.

Lily and Toby describe how they seek to exercise academic freedom
despite consequences they and others now face.

Tucker Carlson's powerful interview of Jeffrey Sachs, world renowned sustainability expert,
was reposted on Trump's Truth Social platform. It opens the January 8 "Dialogue Works" interview
of independent journalist Pepe Escobar.   Whether the dark initiatives Sachs describes
are those of Netanyahu, or the US, the ultimate developments
leave Escobar wishing us luck in a “terrifying" period.
