It seemed like Trump was planning to attack Iran, and then he did. Why should Iran, Russia, or China trust Trump in negotiations now? "Negotiation" equals surrender as in 1945 now? It has been argued that this war was planned, whether Trump or Harris won in 2020. Note that Biden and the EU did not want to/could not restore the JCPOA nuclear deal that Trump tore up in his first term, helping Netanyahu and Trump in starting this war. I think Biden wanted Iran to give up its missiles and "proxies" too (again like Trump, total surrender to Israel and the US?). NPR and maybe even more so the BBC pivoted from spending a lot of time discussing the "Western" fantasy that a short bombing campaign by Israel was likely to topple the government of Iran to saying that Trump hasn't proven that Iran's nuclear facilities were destroyed by the US bombing, which he indeed has not proven, but they care about this question a great deal. Are they trying to make Trump look bad, or do they want this "12 day war" to be the equivalent of the first Iraq War, in the 90's, but on a much faster time table? The only way to "denuclearize" Iran would be to invade and occupy a country that is larger and better defended than Iraq was in 2003 or Syria was in recent years. The government of Iran might have more popular support than the Baathist countries had when they were invaded as well. Send in the infiltrated and probably corrupted IAEA to spy (there have been charges against the inspectors) as in Iraq in the 90's? NPR was a cheerleader for NATO's attack on Libya and the hidden war in Syria and now they are so supportive of war with Iran on the behalf of Israel. I've been avoiding their false news, but I heard little to no discussion of legality, what countries have and do not have known nuclear weapons programs in the Middle East (only Israel has nuclear weapons, many of them, and apparently uses them to blackmail the world), the covered up issue of freedom for Palestine, the NPT, the great damage incured by Israel so far, whether this is the beginning of a period of constant and open Israeli and "Western" attacks on Iran rather than a temporary ending, Israel's great influence over the major parties, Trump believing Netanyahu rather than 'his own' and very expensive agencies, realism about what aerial bombing could accomplish, and whether the American public wants this war, apart from "MAGA" opposition to such "internationalism." On NPR's 6pm discussion program Sunday June 22nd people from the CFR or whatever called the Spanish-American War an early example or the beginning of US "internationalism." Did they only cover "MAGA" opposition only to make Trump and the Republicans look 'bad' and to foment division in Trump world? They mentioned Thomas Massie, but not "MTG" or the few Democrats (Tim Kaine?! with Ro Khanna, etc.?) opposed to the war, other than those who complained that the Trump administration didn't discuss the war with them adequately beforehand. They make "anti-war" only a position on the right or the "far right," and then bemoan when the warmongering Democrats losing elections. The pro-NATO and warmongering "middle class" will rise again, after Trump, some guy said on the 22nd. NPR, etc. goes on and on about how "authoritarian" Trump-Vance are, but then fully back his war, wartime being a very good excuse to impose "authoritarianism," as in 2001. The Bulwark had something about 'going to war with the Trump you have' about a week ago. What happened to George W Bush and Cheney's negative reputations? A few day ago the BBC's morning news presenter made sure to say that not all Iranians support their government when he was interviewing a pro-government or patriotic Iranian woman, as the BBC makes sure to say that the Israeli government would deny the genocide charge when a guest brings it up, while the BBC doesn't do that when Americans or Europeans are portrayed as backing NATO warmongering, etc. They don't platform the anti-war left. It won't happen, but if only the Vatican, the Iranian Ayatollah, the Sunni leadership, the Orthodox, the varied Lefts, etc. could cooperate and take decisive collective action of some kind for the cause they claim to value, not that great sacrifices aren't being made and endured. The news media stopped talking about the number of dead in Gaza, and the Israel-US "aid" foundation says that the regular aid massacres are not really happening. Are they being carried out by American mercenaries? They barely discuss the number of dead Israeli soldiers, though far lower than the Arab and Iranian death toll, not yet at the depths the US, etc. reached over 35 years. The new 9/11 conspiracy, the new 'with us or against us,' the new Afghanistan and Iraq wars (from the 90's to recent years), the new lying government and media, the new torture program, the new US mercenary outrage in Iraq, the new genocide, all over a shorter time, and there is 'no' need for "truth" this time. because only the US and Western European media pretend not to know what is going on? There is a need for "truth," but what the mainstream media here won't or can't say is apparently out in the open in the Israeli media. The Downing Street Memos again? Vote for Biden and then Harris they said, ignore their wars. Even John Kerry didn't have to run on that record in 2004? It was also revealed that Israel and the NATO countries are surprisingly weak without constant US support. No "pivot" away from Western Asia, ever since Obama?
Bemoaning shrimpers remaining in the NC General Assembly building in Raleigh long after winning on their issue (defeating a coastal fisheries conservation bill) on WUNC at 12pm -- this is what democracy looks like (even if harmful) ?
They threaten to fine or arrest people "trespassing" on any railroad tracks in NC. I've heard that they poison the land, kill or harm turtles, and park trains where people need to cross to get to school, etc.
June 26th 1A at 10am discussed a new program that gave four tech executives from Palantir, etc. a high rank in the military reserves. Some critical guy from Wired went on about Russia as a "disinformation" superpower, what if China unleashes an "evil ChatGPT" on the US (the current ChatGPT isn't evil enough?), "AI" is the greatest invention in human history (inventions like fire, cooking, flaked stone tools, agriculture, writing, steam power, relgion, ideology, and electronics did a lot in history, for better or worse), etc.

U.S. / Israeli war on Iran, U.S. decades of sanctions, sabotage, encirclement continues.
The genocidal Israeli attacks in Gaza escalate.
Hour by hour the situation with the Israeli/US war against Iran is changing. Perhaps there is a ceasefire. Iran has always said that if Israel stopped its attacks, they would stop their response against Israel. But even if there is a ceasefire, we can be sure that Israel and the US will never abandon their plans for “regime change” in Iran. They will continue their genocidal attacks against the Palestinians.
Israel's Iron dome defenses failed again and again after the Zionist's June 13 unprovoked, surprise massive bombing of Iran. As destruction and deaths mounted in Israel, the US overtly joined the attacks and bombed the locations of Iran’s nuclear enrichment sites with bunker buster bombs. Many analysts in Iran, and now even in the US, claim that the material and equipment had already been moved from these sites. After the US bombing, Iran retaliated against US bases in Qatar. Additionally, there has been great push back by people in the US and around the world against the aggression of Israel and the US.
Israel has seen that it can be hit, and when Israelis ran to their bomb shelters, their racism was exposed as they did not allow Palestinians or foreign workers from Asia and Africa into the shelters. Thousands of Israelis fled to the ports and airports to escape the country. For the first time they experience what they are doing to the Palestinians on an hourly basis. Israel is vulnerable and Iran has shown they can defend themselves from planned US/Israel destruction.
So, whether the bombs are temporarily quiet or not we must remain in the streets. Many actions have been held throughout the week and many more are planned through this weekend and beyond. Join an action. Plan an action. Continue the fight for real peace.

75+ Progressive Organizations Condemn U.S. Unauthorized Strikes on Iran
June 26, 2025
The undersigned organizations, representing millions of their members across the country, condemn the unauthorized and unconstitutional U.S. strikes on Iran and urge Members of Congress to publicly support and vote for an Iran War Powers Resolution to prohibit and block further U.S. military force against Iran.
Earlier this month, Israel launched illegal strikes on Iran in the heart of its capital, Tehran, killing scores of civilians. Israel carried out assassinations of top Iranian leaders and scientists, and nearly killed the lead official coordinating Iran’s diplomatic talks with the U.S. Many of these attacks killed innocent bystanders, including families that just happened to live near one of Israel’s targets.
Under heavy pressure from Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu, President Trump on June 21st launched U.S. airstrikes against Iranian nuclear sites without Congressional authorization. These airstrikes against Iran were an act of war, while there was no immediate threat to U.S. national security. There is no military solution to security concerns around Iran’s nuclear program. These strikes were illegal, unconstitutional, and counterproductive.
Israeli officials have shown that this is not about Iran’s nuclear program, it is about sabotaging the possibility of diplomacy and a peaceful resolution with Iran. There was no imminent threat from Iran’s nuclear program. It is in fact a war of choice.
Let’s be clear how we got here: President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the Iran Deal (JCPOA) in 2018 which was working and limiting Iran’s nuclear program peacefully. The recent diplomatic efforts between the U.S. and Iran were making major progress and could have resolved Iran’s nuclear program effectively, transparently, and peacefully.
The American people do not support or want a war with Iran. Only a diplomatic resolution will safeguard U.S. interests, reflect the will of the American people, prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, and avert a catastrophic and avoidable war.
We are urging Members of Congress to condemn the unauthorized strikes on Iran, co-sponsor and vote for the War Powers Resolutions led by Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) - S.J.Res. 59 - and Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Ro Khanna (D-CA) - H.Con.Res. 38. Doing so is the only way for lawmakers to show that they stand with their constituents, for the Constitution, and for an end to all illegal and unauthorized offensive military attacks against Iran.

Veterans For Peace Condemns U.S. Attack on Iran - Calls for Nationwide Protests
June 22, 2025
Veterans For Peace condemns the unilateral, immoral, and criminal U.S. bombing on the sovereign nation of Iran. June 21, 2025 will be remembered as the day the U.S. once again chose war over diplomacy, unleashing consequences we may come to regret. The United States deliberately carried out an unprovoked attack on the sovereign nation of Iran in total violation of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the U.S. Constitution. This is not only a provocation—this is a moral failure.
The pretext of Iran’s alleged pursuit of nuclear weapons is a familiar lie. Just like Iraq in 2003, we are being dragged into war based on deliberate deception. The aggressors in this reckless escalation are the United States and Israel. They have lit the fuse for a wider regional war, putting U.S. service members and countless civilians in immediate danger. As veterans who know the tragic cost and futility of war, we urge all people of conscience to reject this madness.
VETERANS FOR PEACE DEMANDS THAT THE U.S. GOVERNMENT:
- Refrain from any further aggression against Iran
- End U.S. Support for Genocide in Gaza
- Stops Sending Weapons to Israel
- Withdraw U.S. Troops and ICE from our Communities
TAKE TO THE STREETS! – We Call on Our Members, Friends and Allies to:
- Join local and national protests against the US/Israeli war on Iran and genocide in Gaza
- Flood Congress and the White House with calls to End the U.S. war on Iran
- Tell your Senators and Representatives to support the War Powers Resolutions introduced in the Senate and the House, and call the White House to express your outrage (202-456-1111).
WE ADVISE OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN THE MILITARY to:
- Question unlawful and immoral orders
- Seek legal advice from the GI Rights Hotline, 1-877-447-4487
- Explore support resources through Veterans For Peace
- Know that you are welcome to join Veterans For Peace

AS ISRAEL DETAINS THE MADLEEN, "VETERANS AND ALLIES FAST FOR GAZA" AT U.N. HITS 40-DAY HALFWAY POINT
June 9, 2025
[image]
New York – The international peace movement is not waiting on governments to stop the genocide in Gaza. Tomorrow, a coalition of military veterans, religious and humanitarian organizations reaches the halfway mark in their 40-day Veterans & Allies Fast for Gaza; the Freedom Flotilla boat, “Madleen” has been seized by Israelis the same day they kill 145 in Gaza; and the Global March To Gaza will walk in solidarity to the Rafah border crossing to demand the entry of aid trucks halted by Israel.
The demands of the Veterans & Allies Fast for Gaza are:
1) Full humanitarian aid to Gaza under UN authority and
2) No more U.S. weapons to Israel.
From May 22, several of the fasters have stood in front of the U.S. Mission to the U.N., on First Avenue, from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. They limit themselves to 250 calories per day, an amount reported to be the average available to Gazans. They are joined by over 700 people, fasting for various lengths of time in the U.S., including people in Italy, Germany, Ireland, Canada and Hong Kong. The fast is organized by Veterans For Peace and is sponsored by 45 peace and justice organizations, led by Friends of Sabeel North America (FOSNA).
Joy Metzler, VFP member and recent graduate of the Air Force Academy, joined the fast saying, “My entire military education focused on how and why to wage war. I was being prepared to become a military professional. Now, I am watching as our government unconditionally supports the very violations of international law I was trained to recognize. I was trained to uphold the values of justice, and that is why I am speaking out and condemning our government’s complicity in the ethnic cleansing of Palestine.”
Russell Brown, VFP member and Viet Nam combat veteran, said, “Israel’s genocide in Palestine gives me the same sleepless nights and stress-filled days I experienced after Viet Nam, which opened my eyes to the horrors of war. Marine Corps General Smedley Butler said he was a ‘Gangster for Capitalism.’ Since Viet Nam, I have always thought of myself as having been a terrorist for the USMC and have spent my life trying to make up for it by opposing the war mongers in government, the corporate weapons manufacturers and the media covering up for them.” He added, “When I tell people I am going to eat only 250 calories a day for 40 days, many tell me I might destroy my health. But that is all most Palestinians eat every day, month after month. I ask why they don’t have the same concern for the People of Gaza. The U.S. and Israel don't even try to hide the atrocities they commit every day. The genocidal Zionists want them gone, exterminated, and the US keeps supplying Israel with the tools to do it.”
Phil Tottenham, a Marine Corps veteran fasting in New York for the duration said, “I used to believe the U.S.-Israeli narrative my entire life until I began researching during the 2014 Gaza ‘War’ and saw the cruelty inflicted on innocent civilians.” The VFP member added, “when I finally was able to visit the West Bank prior to Oct. 7th, I saw with my own eyes and felt with my heart how genuine and generous the Palestinians are and how they love all people, Jewish, Christian, or Muslim. But they do not love their occupiers - who would? I also learned how vile racism towards Palestinians is intentionally taught in Israeli homes and schools and how Israel strategically separates the two peoples from each other.”
Kathy Kelly, board president of World BEYOND War, also in NY for the fast, said, “The midpoint of our fast comes at a dire time for besieged Palestinians, where Israel has begun the final phase of its genocide. The lives of millions are at stake. To protect the Palestinian people, the UN General Assembly must demand a complete military embargo and a ceasefire. It should also convene under the Uniting for Peace Mandate to suspend Israel from the General Assembly if it continues to flout international law. We implore the mainstream media to fully cover the Palestinians’ dire plight.”
Ken Ashe, VFP member and Viet Nam combat veteran, said, “After two years in Viet Nam I questioned what all the death and destruction was for and the only conclusion I could come to was the war industry made tons of money while career officers got promotions. Herman Goering, prior to his war crimes trial at Nuremberg, explained it is easy to take people to war – just tell them there is an enemy out there and we are going to save you. I learned there is nothing in it for the average person while the rich profit greatly.”
Mike Ferner, former National Director of Veterans For Peace, also in NY for the fast, said, “Seeing hundreds of people maimed, burned, and killed every day drives me crazy – just as it did when I nursed wounded G.I.s returning from Viet Nam.” He went on to say, “we simply must open humanitarian aid under UN authority and stop U.S. weapons that fuel the genocide. But beyond that, I say to the CEOs who truly govern our country: Beware! We not only condemn the slaughter of innocents in Palestine, we also condemn this system that gives your corporations the same rights as people – those Bill of Rights protections you use to shred every remnant of democracy and govern America for your benefit.’”

Why I'm Fasting For Gaza
[Image]
June 2, 2025
I am participating in this national fast as a testament to my solidarity with the Palestinian people and to demand an end to the ongoing atrocities in Gaza. Through the act of fasting, I seek to 1) champion the immediate restoration of humanitarian aid into Gaza under UN authority and 2) demand that U.S elected officials enforce an arms embargo on the state of Israel.
I cannot, in good conscience, remain silent while weapons sourced from our own country inflict unspeakable carnage and while innocent civilians are subjected to forced starvation. This fast stands as my moral declaration of defiance—a plea for justice, peace, and the very core of our shared humanity.
These views are my own and do not reflect those of the Department of Defense or the Air Force.

Green Party Condemns The Bombing of Iran

The Green Party of the United States strongly condemns President Trump’s unauthorized bombing attack on Iran and the deceptive negotiations that preceded it. Who knows what the next few weeks will bring?"

Trump’s many boasts of being a peacemaker are now discredited as his actions demonstrate that he is a reckless militarist seeking U.S. dominance over the Mideast. The consequences of this attack may include disruption of global oil supplies, further destruction in Israel, and possible escalation if Russia or China act to defend Iran.
Not content with providing a steady stream of weapons and logistical support to Israel to sustain the Gaza genocide, the U.S. has now committed an act of war by bombing Iran’s nuclear technology sites. Without any Congressional authorization, our nation is plunging into an ill-considered Mideast military adventure in support of an Israeli state that knows no limits to its territorial ambitions and openly defies international law.
“The U.S.must stop spreading the flames of war in the Mideast and compel Israel to halt its attacks on Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and Iran. Israel will never be a safe country if it is committed to laying waste to its neighbors. An immediate cease fire should be followed by negotiations to achieve a permanent settlement of the Israeli/Palestinian dispute under United Nations auspices” said Madelyn Hoffman, co-chair of the Green Party’s Peace Action Committee.
“A ceasefire between Iran and Israel was announced yesterday by the US. It will last 12 hours and then the war will be over. But who knows whether the end of fighting will hold? Who knows what the next few weeks will bring?" said Haig Hovaness, co-chair of the Green Party’s Peace Action Committee.
“The Green Party is the party of peace. Unlike the two dominant U.S. political parties, we oppose a militaristic foreign policy based on lies and manufactured threats. The Party calls for nationwide demonstrations and political actions protesting the latest U.S. imperial war. We must stop the U.S. war machine before it consumes us all,” added Hoffman.

U.S. Attack on Iran Reaffirms the Need for a More Effective Global Anti-Imperialist Movement
U.S. Peace Council
June 22, 2025
The U.S. Peace Council strongly condemns the outrageous, criminal and illegal attack on the sovereign state of Iran by the United States administration of Donald P. Trump. This flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter and the Nuremberg condemnation of wars of choice, should serve as a graphic demonstration that U.S. imperialism continues to operate beyond the boundaries of law, rejecting any accountability or constraints on its behavior.
The act of war committed by the U.S. against Iran comes on the heels of its violation of another red line of civilized international behavior by the U.S., when it treacherously pretended to be engaged in a diplomatic process with Iran as a diversionary tactic to facilitate a sneak attack on Iran by Israel.
The U.S. has tried to justify its illegal bombing as an act of preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons. But it is well known by now that Iran has neither any nuclear weapons nor has had any intention of developing such weapons — at least until before the current U.S. aggression on its nuclear facilities. The fabricated claim about the “threat” of Iran’s nuclear program is just a cover for a much broader objective of eliminating Iran as one of the main pillars of global anti-imperialist resistance and transition to a new, non-hegemonic, multipolar world.
For U.S. imperialism, the problem is not Iran’s nuclear program, but its determined resistance to imperialism’s regional and global hegemony. As both Bejamin Netanyahu and Donal[d] Trump have repeatedly said, the real objective of US/Israel military aggression against Iran is a forced regime change and the partition of that country. Hence, the bombing of Iran’s nuclear facilities is not the end, but the beginning of an unprecedented round of aggressions in violation of the UN Charter and international law, which could lead to a much broader conflagration if not stopped immediately.
Imperialist domination is impossible without its core instrument of enforcement and control — state violence — with kinetic war being its most devastating form. The imperialist objective is regional domination of West Asia. It is therefore imperative that imperialist material interests undergirding war informs our understanding of the current violent attacks on Iran by the U.S. and Israel.
The U.S. instrumentalizes war to advance imperialism’s geostrategic and economic interests. The recognition of this fact should compel U.S. peace and anti-imperialist organizations to center their understanding that these interests are the driving forces for contemporary warmongering and the violence unleashed over the last few weeks against Iran. We urge the antiwar movement to embrace an anti-imperialist frame and language that strips away the official obfuscation of naked imperial interests with terms like humanitarian intervention, self-defense, or any of the other cover ups.

National SDS Statement: No War with Iran!
National SDS condemns Israel’s agression and recent missile strikes on Iran. Israel’s continued attacks on Iran, beginning Thursday, are an unjustified military escalation and now threaten to provoke a wider war, endangering millions of people throughout the whole region. Israel continues to commit a genocide in Gaza with the full approval of, and continued funding by, the Trump administration. We know, as students within the US, it is our duty to continue to call for the US to end aid to Israel. Without our funding, our bombs, and our government’s political support we know the genocide could not continue - and this violent aggression against Iran would not be able to either.
Hands Off Iran!
Money for Jobs and Education not for War and Deportations!
No Wider War!
End US Aid to Israel!
