On August 3 and the Days of Rage: Act, mobilize and escalate for Gaza and the prisoners; break the siege and end the genocide

“We call for active and massive participation on this national and global day in defense of our prisoners and our people in the Gaza Strip, to expose the brutal crimes of the occupation against them, and to support their rights and just cause….We look forward to making the 3 of August a pivotal day in all parts of Palestine, in the refugee camps and the diaspora, in our Arab and Islamic world, & among all the free people of the world, to support our people in Gaza and our free prisoners in the occupation’s prisons.” – Ismail Haniyeh, 29 July 2024

Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network joins in the collective call for action on 3 August and throughout the first week of August, for days of rage and action in solidarity with Gaza, the prisoners, and the Palestinian people and their liberation, from the river to the sea. As the ongoing Zionist-imperialist genocide enters its 666th day of escalation — after over 77 years of a genocidal project being implanted in the region at the behest of imperialist powers — it is more urgent than ever for people around the world, especially in the heart of the imperial core, to organize, escalate, and answer the calls of the workers and students of Gaza, and of the heroic Palestinian resistance, for action to break the siege, liberate the prisoners and end the genocide.

The ongoing escalated genocide in Gaza is being carried out not only through bunker-buster bombs and artillery shells, but also through the massive use of the weapon of starvation against the Palestinian people. While the Zionist regime, with the full participation and complicity of the imperialist powers, has besieged Gaza for over 18 years, since 2 March 2025 it has almost entirely cut off entry of basic supplies and food, blocking access to the United Nations and internationally recognized food distribution projects like UNRWA and the World Food Program, initiating the US-Zionist death traps of the so-called “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation” (actually a CIA-private military contractor joint project), and funding and arming collaborator gangs to attack and steal aid trucks whenever they do enter, particularly to UN facilities.

As a result of the Zionist siege, Gaza is currently facing a level 5 famine, entirely created by the Zionist military machine and its imperialist backers in the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Canada, and fellow European Union powers. Over 1,000 Palestinians have been massacred at GHF “aid sites” — a mechanism to concentrate, surveil, abduct and ethnically cleanse Palestinians — while over 160 Palestinians, including 92 children, have been martyred due to starvation and malnutrition. Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor reported that over 1,200 elder Palestinians have been martyred in the past 2 months due to the effects of starvation and lack of health care, due to the all-out assault and destruction of the Palestinian health system by the Zionist war machine. While U.S. “mediator” Steve Witkoff, who appeared on stage alongside lead Trump donor and far-right Zionist advocate Miriam Adelson to pledge his support for the genocidal entity, appears at the GHF “aid” site in Rafah for a photo opportunity, Palestinian journalist Anas al-Sharif revealed that occupation forces were using suppressors (silencers) to shoot aid seekers in order to reduce the visibility of the crime amid the media attention.

Far from an “honest broker,” Witkoff and the United States — which claims to be a mediator while directing and arming the genocide — have repeatedly used ceasefire negotiations to instead slander the Palestinian resistance while presenting a false image to the public of the world, which is increasingly outraged by the widely shared images and testimonies of genocide and engineered starvation. While repeatedly claiming that an agreement is “near,” these parties have instead repeatedly rejected any kind of dignified ceasefire and instead plotted more war crimes and crimes against humanity, including ongoing aggression targeting Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and Iran, not to mention the massive outbreak of settler violence and military attacks throughout the West Bank of occupied Palestine.

At the same time, over 10,800 Palestinian prisoners — in addition to Lebanese and Syrian prisoners — are living the experience of engineered starvation and slow assassination inside the occupation prisons. Just days ago, Palestinian prisoners’ associations announced the martyrdom of Sayed Jamal Abu Rajab, the 75th identified Palestinian prisoner martyred inside the occupation prisons since 7 October 2023. The Palestinian prisoners are being subjected to extreme torture and abuse alongside malnutrition and denial of medical care, while the leadership of the prisoners’ movement have been held in complete isolation — and repeatedly beaten — for 22 months. In the prison camps like Sde Teiman and Anatot, Palestinians — especially from Gaza — are routinely subjected to sexual assault, physical violence and mass starvation. Palestinian prisoners are women and men, children and elders, from all political backgrounds — targeted as part of the ongoing assault on Palestinian existence and resistance.

Throughout the genocide, the heroic resistance, particularly the armed resistance, continue to confront the occupation and impose a cost upon the genocidaires with unparalleled bravery and commitment to the struggle. In every area of Gaza where the occupation claims that the resistance has been eliminated or defeated, a new operation emerges to prove that the opposite is true. In fact, the occupation has utterly failed to achieve its stated military objectives of freeing its prisoners or eradicating the resistance. It is instead seeking to rely on political and diplomatic power to achieve these goals, as the resistance in Gaza has blocked them on every occasion. Let us be clear — demands for a “demilitarized Palestinian ‘state'” or the “disarmament of the resistance,” whether in Palestine or Lebanon, are demands to continue the genocide without repercussions and achieve what they have failed to do on the battlefield. In fact, it is the weapons of the Resistance that are currently standing as the foremost shield of humanity in the face of a vicious death machine wielded by Zionism and imperialism.

August 3 and the first week of August take on an even more significant meaning when we recall that the call to action for August 3 in 2024 was the final public statement and call to action of the martyred Palestinian leader, Ismail Haniyeh, Abu al-Abed, the leader of Hamas and a national leader of the Palestinian people, who was assassinated by the occupation in Tehran, Iran, on 31 July, only two days later, alongside his companion, Waseem Abu Shaban. This assassination was, like the genocide itself, a coordinated attack with the participation of the U.S.; on the same day, the Zionists assassinated Lebanese resistance leader Fouad Shukr of Hezbollah, while the U.S. bombed Iraq, targeting four leaders of the Iraqi resistance.

He was renowned for his high level of principle and commitment to Palestinian liberation and national unity, and for his rejection of the unjust and unacceptable conditions placed upon the Palestinian people — indeed, the attempt to bargain Palestinian lives for basic rights and dignity. As he declared, “The fortresses will not fall, the strongholds will not be breached, they will not snatch our positions from us, and we will not recognize ‘Israel.'” Throughout generations of struggle, the Palestinian people have made clear that the martyrdom of their leaders will not hold back their struggle; as we mark 3 August one year later, we must also make that clear internationally, and make Haniyeh’s last call to the public one that resonates through the years, for action and solidarity.

Those principles are perhaps more urgent than ever, with the Palestinian cause facing multiple forms of attack: of course, the genocide and starvation regime imposed by the US-European-Zionist aggression on Gaza and throughout Palestine, the taking of nearly 100 martyrs daily, the horrific war crimes against the population. However, the proclamations of Britain, France, Canada and other directly complicit imperialist nations (as well as of Saudi Arabia and complicit Arab reactionary regimes) about “recognition of a Palestinian ‘state'” (without actual control over land, borders and trade; without sovereignty or self-determination; ‘demilitarized’ and serving as a security arm of the Zionist regime; without the right to return of Palestinian refugees; and with the elimination of the resistance) are not about recognizing Palestinian rights but instead about a new project to liquidate those rights. In fact, these statements come as a new report reveals ongoing and widespread Canadian arms trade with “Israel” and as Britain declares Palestine Action a “terrorist” organization for confronting Zionist arms factories.

If any of these states actually seek to support Palestinian rights, the first steps that they can and must take are to impose a two-way, full arms embargo on the Zionist regime; expel ‘Israeli’ ambassadors and close their own embassies; end the criminalization of Palestinian resistance and Palestine solidarity organizations as ‘terrorists’; immediately send trucks and observers, and accompany those trucks to demand the immediate entry of aid to Gaza through the Rafah crossing with no interference or role for the Zionist genocidaires — not to mention the moral obligation to actively support the Palestinian resistance. They are instead aiming to pacify the outrage among their populations about the ongoing genocide, cover up their own complicity and protect the future of the Zionist project rather than recognizing the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people — without conditions — to full self-determination and sovereignty, not to mention return and liberation, on their entire national soil.

This moment has also highlighted the complicity of reactionary Arab regimes that have engaged in normalization with the Zionist project, from Camp David to Wadi Araba to the “Abraham Accords,” in the continuing genocide. From Egypt refusing to open the Rafah crossing to enter goods and international journalists due to the dictates of the U.S. and the Zionist entity, to Jordan criminalizing support for the resistance and even protest while shooting down drones from Yemen and Iran, to the United Arab Emirates creating a “land bridge” to evade the Yemeni blockade of the port of “Eilat” (Umm al-Rashrash), these reactionary regimes are now facing real pressure about their active complicity in the siege, starvation and genocide of Gaza at the behest of the imperialist powers. Meanwhile, in Syria, despite the government’s repeated assurances of its interest in “peace” and normalization, the occupation continues to invade, take over territory and abduct Syrians.

In contrast, at the same time, every day, in Lebanon, resisters and people of the South are targeted for assassinations in rampant ceasefire violations while the U.S. demands the disarmament of the Resistance, while Yemen continues its massive popular mobilization for Palestine alongside and fully integrated with the actions of its armed forces to actively intervene to bring an end to the genocide and cut off its supply lines in an example that should serve as a challenge to all.

This 3 August — and every day from now — must be a time for action, but also a time for escalation. 22 months, 666 days of genocide, amid rampant engineered starvation, the deliberate promotion of disease, and the mass murder of Palestinian children, adults and elders, men and women, in schools, mosques, churches, refugee camps and residential buildings.

We join the call of the Masar Badil, the Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement:

Let the first week of August become Days of Rage everywhere—especially in North America and Europe.

We call upon the masses of our Palestinian people, the allies and supporters of the resistance, and all anti-colonial forces around the world to raise their voices loud and clear, take to the streets, besiege Zionist embassies, and turn every public square and city into a point of direct confrontation, until the siege is broken and the aggression is ended.

We must stand up for the martyrs, and for the imprisoned martyrs that the occupation continues to jail after death, and witness for them. Stand up for the wounded, for the health care workers fighting to save lives under the bombs. Stand up for the heroic resistance fighting every day for a free Palestine. Stand up for the prisoners, confronting the occupier daily behind bars, holding fast to freedom.

  • Confront the arms factories that trade with the occupation or are owned directly by occupation companies — like Elbit Systems — with blockades and direct action. Shut down the economy of genocide.
  • Besiege the embassies of the occupation and its complicit imperialist partners. Shut them down and make it impossible for them to carry out their genocidal business.
  • Shut down streets, government buildings and institutions of the imperial core. The genocide is an emergency. Every day, Palestinians are being massacred and it is clear that the imperialist states will not exert pressure for the genocide to end unless their own interests are on the line directly.
  • Continue the escalations at the embassies of complicit Arab reactionary regimes. These regimes must be concerned about their own futures in order to create counter-pressure to the Zionists and imperialists.

Wherever you are, organize, escalate and act. Ramp up our organizing and our mobilization, be louder, more visible, and create a greater obstruction for the business of the war machine. It is clear that the genocide will not end so long as its perpetrators enjoy impunity; if we cannot rely or wait for the courts, we must impose popular accountability through action.

The Palestinian resistance is today on the front lines defending Gaza, Palestine, the Arab nation, the Islamic world, and all of humanity. Our actions must live up to the example they set every day, to end the human-made famine, end the starvation, end the genocide — and fight for a free Palestine, from the river to the sea.

Central Organ of the Communist Party of Labor – PCT
of the Dominican Republic

Final Resolution of the 28th International Camp of Anti-Fascist and Anti-Imperialist Youth (ICJDAA)
ICDAAY Delegates
The 28th International Camp of Anti-Fascist and Anti-Imperialist Youth (ICDAAY) has come to an end. Young people from all over the world gathered under the slogan "Youth united for peace and their future, against imperialism and its wars". This meeting is a clear example that it is possible to build a world where true peace, equality and freedom prevail. What we have achieved in this camp, together with the struggles undertaken by young people around the world, is a foretaste of the change that the international youth struggle can bring.
Hundreds of young people gathered in the Dominican Republic between August 18 and 25, discussing how to combat those who expand their rule by exploiting the working class and peoples. Delegations from Ecuador, Mexico, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Haiti, United States, Spain, Germany and Turkey share our experiences of fighting for youth rights and social change, while also exchanging our music, dances and cultures.
The world is under the shadow of inter-imperialist contradictions, economic crises, regional wars, occupation and plunder by the powers. The imperialists and their collaborators cause death and destruction among the peoples. The most tangible evidence is the genocide perpetrated by the U.S.-backed Zionist state of Israel against the Palestinian people. The death toll has topped 40,000, mostly women and children. Predatory wars between imperialist powers bring poverty, hunger and unemployment into our lives, while global spending on armaments has amounted to $2.4 trillion. This plunder destroys nature, making more and more frequent catastrophes such as forest fires and floods, which mainly affect the working class and peoples, while the monopolies and large corporations enrich themselves by plundering natural resources.
The imperialists, through the tensions and conflicts they create, are paving the way for the organization of the extreme right, nationalism and reactionary groups that position themselves against the working class, the people and youth who are struggling. The growing fascist tendency in some countries is being organized by the imperialist powers to consolidate their rule throughout the world, promoting reactionary violence, hostility towards immigrants, racism, sexist policies and practices aimed at suppressing social opposition.
The imperialists are lining their pockets by stealing the future of the youth. There are systematic attacks on the right to education, health care, employment and a dignified life for young people around the world, while military budgets are increasing. The working conditions of young people are worsening with precariousness, long working hours that do not allow them to rest, eat or exercise properly, all for poverty salaries. The WHO notes that one in seven people aged 10 to 19 suffers from depression, and suicide is the fourth leading cause of death among young people aged 15 to 29. Mental health is another of the fronts of struggle imposed by this system.
Paramilitarism and drug trafficking also threaten the lives of young people as mechanisms of intimidation and oppression. Organized crime, taking advantage of the vulnerability of young people, lures many with false promises of provisions. This criminal escalation is an inherent part of the corruption of the system.
If imperialism, the bourgeoisie and their repressive forces are preparing for new wars, it is essential that we strengthen our organization and struggle from the democratic and leftist sectors. We must concentrate our energies on agitation and propaganda, using all available resources, especially the digital media, art and culture. Political tools, such as our newspapers, have been instrumental in increasing our ranks and strengthening political work among youth.
Only with a concrete knowledge of the global situation will our generation be able to face the daily challenges and counter the ideology of the rich, which is disseminated through numerous media. To offer an alternative to this worldview, we must occupy all spaces, physical and virtual, with the propaganda of our ideas. Let us increase the organization of the youth and our struggle for an end to imperialist exploitation and aggression!
Young people want to live, but capitalism kills us every day. Young people want to study, but our schools close and universities become precarious. We want access to leisure, culture and sport, but there are no incentives. We want a different perspective on life, but the system oppresses and limits us, putting our future and the very existence of the planet at risk.
The discussions in the ICDAAY have raised with us the need to organize the youth to strengthen the class struggle in our countries and throughout the world, allying ourselves with the working class in the defense of social transformation and revolution. In this way, we will continue to expose the capitalist-imperialist system and move forward towards organizing revolution and building a new socialist society.
The fight for a better world is not easy. The path of rebellion against this system is fraught with dangers and attacks by those who wish to maintain their privileges. In this process, many comrades have fallen to the violence of the system. We pay tribute to all those who have been victims of repression. Ten years after the disappearance of the 43 students from the Ayotzinapa Rural Normal School, we demand justice. We also honor the memory of Sarah Silva Domingues, a youth leader in Brazil, and condemn the brutal attack against Rosseel Rivera of the Mexican Revolutionary Youth Union, during the protests in solidarity with Palestine.
It is possible to dismantle the savage system that the powerful have imposed by keeping alive the memory of our comrades and raising their banners higher. Let us advance the struggles in each of our countries and firmly oppose imperialist violence and exploitation. The 28th ICDAAY ratifies its commitment to integrate the youth of the world in the struggle for national and social liberation, against imperialist war and for socialism.
Long live the 28th International Camp of Democratic, Anti-Fascist and Anti-Imperialist Youth!
Long live the struggle of the youth, the workers and peoples of the world!
Down with imperialism and its wars!

The Experience of the 28th International Camp of Anti-Fascist and Anti-Imperialist Youth:
A Week of Struggle and Solidarity
By Oscarina Martínez
From August 18 to 25, 2024, the Dominican Republic was the scene of the 28th International Camp of Antifascist and Anti-Imperialist Youth (ICDAAY), a place where young people from all over the world gathered under the slogan "Youth united for peace and their future, against imperialism and its wars". This event not only served as a meeting place for young militants, but as a real space for learning, reflection and international solidarity.
Hundreds of young people from countries such as Ecuador, Mexico, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Haiti, United States, Spain, Germany and Turkey shared their local struggles, their perspectives on the future and their commitment to social transformation. The camp became a vibrant and diverse place, where cultural differences were celebrated and similarities in the struggle against the capitalist-imperialist system served as the foundation of unity. In addition to the discussions and work tables, the young people enjoyed music, dances and cultural expressions that reflected the richness of the different delegations.
During the camp, participants addressed the current crises affecting the world under the shadow of imperialism: regional wars, occupations, plundering of natural resources, inter-imperialist contradictions, and the devastating consequences of the capitalist system on the lives of the working class and youth. In the midst of the discussions, the genocide against the Palestinian people perpetrated by the U.S.-backed Zionist state of Israel stood out as one of the clearest examples of imperialist brutality.
Predatory wars between powers not only leave a trail of death and destruction, but also bring with them poverty, hunger and unemployment. Faced with this scenario, the young people of the ICDAAY reaffirmed their commitment to fight against this system that prioritizes military spending – amounting to $2.4 trillion worldwide – over the basic needs of the population, such as education, health care and social welfare.
One of the key themes that emerged during the camp was the role that youth must play in the struggle for social transformation. The way the imperialist forces and the bourgeoisie have made the lives of young people a battlefield, attacking their rights to education, health, employment and a dignified life, was discussed. The deterioration of working conditions, the lack of opportunities, the increase in mental health problems and the precariousness of access to culture and leisure were some of the issues that were discussed in depth.
The youth of the ICDAAY made it clear that their struggle is not only local, but global. They pledged to continue to organize the struggle against imperialist exploitation and aggression in each of their countries, while strengthening international solidarity.
The 28th ICDAAY concluded with a clear resolution: to increase the organization of youth throughout the world and to strengthen the struggle against imperialism and its wars. The camp reaffirmed that only through internationalist unity and constant mobilization can progress be made towards a new society, free from exploitation, oppression and violence.
The 28th ICDAAY has been an example showing that united youth can not only resist, but also transform the world. And this camp is just the beginning of what's to come.
Long live the Revolutionary Youth!
Long live Internationalist Solidarity!
Down with imperialism and its wars!

[NPR gave John Otis what seemed like over 5 minutes after 5pm on the 26th to say that the US and the ICC are basically going to get Venezuelan president Maduro, unless he leaves his country, as the US ordered Saddam Hussein to leave his country around spring 2003, or else.  NPR often has Latinos voice its US government propaganda against Latin America countries, and so on by ethnicity.  Otis quoted someone from the Atlantic Council pointing out that Maduro wouldn't have an incentive to give up power if that means imprisonment; as with Netanyahu and other US allies, they didn't mention.  They assume that Maduro will lose, citing a poll.  Polls indicate that bloody and not very democratic warmonger Biden is heading to a loss in November, after all of the talk about "democracy," including at 4pm today.  There were even quotes from the US-appointed "president" Juan Guaido, etc.  They ended by quoting that 'no good' Diosbado Cabello of the PSUV saying that the only transition coming in Venezuela is the transition to socialism, though it has stayed capitalist throughout the Bolivarian period.  If they can give up on prosecution, are they admitting that they don't have a real case?  Otis brought up how "dictators" used to go into exile, without noting that in Latin America those leaders were just about all US-backed rightists, and they often fled to the USA.   Someone claimed that they had offered to let Maduro and anyone else flee the country, but that it is too late now, and here Maduro says that he has been threatened:  diario-octubre.com/2024/05/25/presidente-maduro-revelo-que-el-imperialismo-le-ofrecio-riquezas-para-que-entregara-la-patria-jamas-caere/

Jill Stein became the GPUS' official presidential candidate May 25th [by the delegate count].  The BBC and NPR didn't report about that, but they have played a recording of Trump being booed at the Libertarian convention this weekend.  RFK Jr also spoke there.  I haven't heard the media say anything about the actual Libertarian candidates.

Apparently May 25th is Geek Pride Day and May 26th is Paper Airplane Day, etc., according to the National Day Calendar website.  Africa Day is May 25th.  The Confederate Army of Trans-Mississippi surrendered May 26, 1865?  May 24th is Brother's Day, Escargot Day, Road Trip Day, Aviation Maintenance Technician Day, Wyoming Day, etc. and Pluto was given its name in 1930?  May 22, 2017 Trump became the first president to go to the Western Wall in Jerusalem while in office; he also went to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.  The Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski, was born May 22, 1942, and Arthur Conan Doyle in 1859.

Julia Ward Howe was born May 27, 1819; Wild Bill Hickok was born May 27, 1837; Rachel Carson was born May 27, 1907;  May 27, 1931 humans first flew into the stratosphere, by balloon; light from the star Arcturus in Bootes, up now, inaugurated the Chicago World's Fair May 27, 1933; pedestrian traffic began on the Golden Gate Bridge May 27, 1935; and May 27, 1999 Discovery became the first Shuttle to dock at the ISS.  The Battle of Cempoala [1520], US Memorial Day, Grape Day, Cellophane Tape Day, etc.?

There are reports that Hamas fired rockets from Rafah, some of which hit in Israel, for the first time in a while and there are reports that more Israeli soldiers have been captured and taken underground.  Perhaps in return, Biden-backed Israel bombed a supposedly safe camp for displaced civilians.

CODEPINK Demands Rep. Burchett Retract Lie Told In Foreign Affairs Hearing

CODEPINK Demands Retraction of Representative Tim Burchett’s Deflamatory Claim in House Foreign Affairs Committee

WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, during the House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing with Secretary of State Antony Blinken,Tennessee Rep Tim Burchett falsely claimed that someone from CODEPINK threatened to kill his wife and daughter. That is a dangerous  and horrific accusation from someone in power.

When pressed on this outrageous lie, a staffer for Burchett claimed it happened two days ago. Knowing that no one from CODEPINK would ever threaten to kill anyone, the D.C. team continued to ask questions about the alleged encounter. The staffer could not identify the person and said he had no witnesses. The congressman also did not file any report about receiving a death threat.

CODEPINK spends countless hours in Congress trying to stop the U.S. support of the murder of innocent people, like mothers and daughters in Gaza . We would never threaten the lives of mothers and daughters here in the United States. However, what we often do is ask these elected officials who wholeheartedly support the ongoing genocide to consider how they would feel if their own families were bombed and starved to death. That is an attempt to appeal to their humanity. We are asking for empathy, not threatening violence. It is a shame that Rep. Burchett would take such an appeal to humanity and twist it into a death threat.

We ask Representative Burchett to retract his unfounded claim. He does not have to agree with us about Israel’s actions, but it is unacceptable for him to defame our organization and the passionate volunteers who try to hold our elected officials accountable.

We know that wars, genocides, and occupations are driven by hate and lies. With all that is happening in the world, all the death and destruction, we need peace and cooperation now more than ever. CODEPINK remains committed to promoting diplomacy and disarmament through creative, nonviolent actions to address issues of militarism, injustice, and inequality.

Capitol Police Arrest CODEPINK Staff Member Without Just Cause

CODEPINK Condemns Repression by Capitol Police: Staff Member Arrested for Quietly Exiting Hearing Room

WASHINGTON – A CODEPINK staff member was arrested this afternoon after she quietly exited a room where a hearing was taking place. At CODEPINK, we routinely risk arrest at congressional hearings while we disrupt warmongering politicians – but that was not the case in this instance. Our staff member awaits a court date for a previous arrest and did not intend to be arrested today. At the time of her arrest, she was exiting a hearing room without saying anything or holding up any signs, just holding up her hands for a brief moment. This symbolic action alone has never resulted in an arrest in our last 20 years of protesting on Capitol Hill. No disruption was taking place.  According to the police, she will be held overnight or potentially until her court date in June.

"The Capitol Police know our faces well at this point; we are there daily. Julia's arrest today is nothing short of political repression and intimidation. Earlier today, they assaulted our members at a hearing, and now they are threatening to hold our members in jail for doing nothing at all." Danaka Katovich, the National Co-Director of CODEPINK. "In what democracy do police forces arrest recognizable activists? Julia's arrest and assaults on our activists earlier today signal a larger state of repression we are entering in our fight for a free Palestine. We will continue to stand by our staff and all activists against political repression," she continued.

Today, as well, police forces at the University of Michigan raided a student encampment, using pepper spray and landing several people in the hospital. More and more arrests are taking place at peaceful protests for Palestine all over the country. And now, in our very own congressional buildings that our tax dollars pay for – activists are assaulted and arrested for interrupting politicians and holding up signs, or even, in Julia's case – for just being a recognizable activist who is doing nothing illegal.

We condemn all acts of political repression against advocates for peace and justice, whether it's attacks on our non-profit staff or students from Columbia to Michigan.

You can watch footage of her arrest here.

BREAKING: Four Peace Activists Arrested, One Left Bleeding After Disruption of Antony Blinken

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Peace Activists Face Charges of Resisting Arrest During a Disruption of Secretary Blinken’s Testimony in a Senate Foreign Affairs Committee

WASHINGTON -- Peace activists with CODEPINK and American Muslims for Palestine disrupted war criminal Antony Blinken this morning in the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on American Diplomacy and Global Leadership. In the United State’s true authoritarian and anti-democratic fashion, two activists face charges of resisting arrest and were threatened with charges of assaulting a police officer.” There were plenty of witnesses who can attest that neither activists assaulted anyone.

The only people assaulted today were the disrupters. CODEPINK member Ann Wright received an injury to her wrist when the police violently removed Mohamad Habehh from American Muslims for Palestine. Mohamad, disrupted Blinken by evoking the name of Hind Rajab, a 6-year victim of Israel’s 7-month long genocide of Gaza. Hind is one of tens of thousands of children murdered by Israel with the aid and support of the United States.

“Hind Rajab was 6 years old when Israeli soldiers killed her. Over 35,000 Palestinians have been murdered in Gaza with American taxpayer dollars. Their blood is on your hands. You will be remembered as the butcher of Gaza. Your legacy is genocide. You’re just as guilty as Netanyahu. You’re killing our families, Blinken,” charged Mohamad.

“As a retired US diplomat, I am horrified by what Tony Blinken is doing a secretary of state and being a part of the genocide the Israeli genocide of Gaza, Tony Blinken, and the state department should be ashamed of themselves for assisting in the destruction of Gaza and the killing of 10 of thousands of Palestinians,” explained Ann Wright who was there to also disrupt Secretary Blinken.

We are witnessing a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, where over 35,000 Palestinians have lost their lives, with American taxpayer dollars funding this violence. Secretary of State Antony Blinken bears direct responsibility for these atrocities and will be remembered as the "Butcher of Gaza." His legacy is one of genocide, on par with the actions of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

CODEPINK volunteer, Tina, reminded Blinken of the war crimes he is purposely turning a blind eye to when she disrupted. She yelled to the “undiplomatic” diplomat, "There have been 7 mass graves outside of hospitals. This is sick. This is deranged. You are a war criminal. Shame on you!"

Secretary Blinken is actively funding and financing this genocide. As the Secretary of State, it is his duty to ensure that U.S. weapons supplied to foreign militaries are used in accordance with international law. This obligation has been egregiously neglected, as evidenced by the continued bombing and starvation of hospitals, schools, mosques, churches, and refugee camps. Blinken's actions constitute a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law. This cannot be allowed to continue.

Olivia DiNucci, who alongside Mohamed is being charged with resisting arrest, made it clear that the United States is responsible for death and destruction around the globe - not diplomacy and leadership as the hearing titled implied.

“The U.S. has given billions to Israel, but our country urgently needs these funds for healthcare, housing, and addressing climate change. We must end our complicity in this destruction and focus on building a just and equitable society at home,” DiNucci explained.

BREAKING: Medea Benjamin and Others Arrested For Telling Truth at House Foreign Affairs Hearing on US Aid

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

May 17, 2024

Media Contact: Melissa Garriga | melissa [at codepink ]

CODEPINK Members Arrested at House Committee on Foreign Affairs Hearing on US Aid

Washington, D.C. - Four members of CODEPINK were arrested today at a House Committee on Foreign Affairs hearing focused on eliminating U.S. aid to entities designated as terrorists.

CODEPINK member Julia Norman challenged the testimonies presented during the hearing, accusing those testifying of disseminating false information. Another member, Mary Beth, vocally confronted the participants, asserting that their actions were directly responsible for the starvation of children in Gaza.

After the meeting adjourned, Medea Benjamin, co-founder of CODEPINK, addressed the room, stating that she had visited Gaza seven times. She emphasized that she has personally witnessed the operations of UNRWA schools and distribution centers and refuted claims made during the hearing that U.S. aid intended for Gazans is going to Hamas. Benjamin emphasized that the allegations made in the hearing were without evidence. CODEPINK member Pua Ali’i Lum echoed her sentiments.

Despite the hearing being officially over and no signs being used, Medea Benjamin and Pua Ali’i were detained and arrested in the hallway for "demonstrating in a federal building." The arrest decision appeared to have been made by Capitol police rather than the committee chair.

The sham hearing featured three witnesses, yet failed to entertain any testimony from witnesses on behalf of UNRWA. The actual criminal act is when elected officials and their "witnesses" lie under oath in the people's house. It is even especially heinous when those lies are directly contributing to the death by starvation of innocent men, women, and children.

Despite the oppressive tactics today, CODEPINK will continue to speak truth to power that lies. We will continue to call out those who are directly contributing to war crimes.
