BAP welcomes Amnesty International’s report on genocide in Gaza + BAJ, UNAC, and other events around December 10th

BAP'statement was originally posted December 5th or 6th (it was sent out by email on the 6th around 1:52pm):  www.blackallianceforpeace.com/bapstatements/aireportwelcome

I might have missed coverage, but NPR seems to be avoiding the report from AI, while it was top news on the BBC.  There was an administration interview on "Here and Now," but I didn't hear it and news briefs didn't go over what was said.  Are "Western" governments going to make AI pay for this stand in coming years, as they have targeted UNRWA?  They seemed to be covering for Israel regarding Lebanon on "1A" this morning and NPR coverage of the coup attempt in ROK and the cancellation of the election in Romania is put in Biden's frame of "autocracies" versus "democracies," such as the "democratic" or "self-governing" island of Taiwan, the ROK, Ukraine, Romania, Israel, the UK, Germany, Canada, France, etc.  Imagine if Obama coud have cancelled the 2016 election results.  Maybe the Ugovernment will take a Romanian or even an ROK option in the future, and Trump hasn't successfully entered office yet.  The "left," usually termed the "far-left" on NPR, and the "far-right" cooperated, an "unholy alliance" on "1A," to vote out the rightist "centrist" administration in France, for the first time in something like 60 years.  The BBC termed Irish Sinn Fein leftist and nationalist, while NPR termed them leftist; they both mentioned Sinn Fein's link to the IRA in the 20th century, maybe more on NPR.  The BBC and maybe less so NPR, welcome the Islamist advance against the 'awful' "Assad regime" in Syria.  Of course this isn't about empowering Israel or connected to the US government.  Whatever their brand of Islamism, I haven't heard any mention of how much the "rebel" "opposition" advance sounds like the rapid, barely opposed advance of IS in Iraq and Syria.  The mainstream, "Western" imperialism-connected media condemns the Afghan Taliban, again just now, but praises or covers for al Qaida-connected Islamist militants in Libya and Syria.  More rightist, Zionist and pro-Republican media tries to portray Hamas as akin to IS.  When the ceasefire began in Lebanon the media seemed to go back to highlighting that Hezbollah is a "proxy" of Iran.  They never mention what powers Israel, Ukraine, Taiwan, or the "Free Syrian Army" serve (other than Turkey, in the case of the advancing militants).  Reminiscent of 2017, NPR's framing of Trump-Vance really changed by the end of November, from Trump is a great threat to the bourgeois democratic order, even a would-be fascist dictator, a Hitler, to toned down coverage, even putting a positive spin on the appointment of RFK Jr in one story in November and on government costcutting by "DOGE" on "All Things Considered" December 5th, with barely a word about the "defense" budget, other than saying that Republicans in general oppose reducing military spending and Democrats oppose reducing other expenditures.  The report did mention the alleged great cost of Social Security, Medicare, etc.  I think "1Astill has its "If You Can Keep It" segment every week and Steve Inskeep makes points for the Democratic Party weekday mornings.  Republicans, etc. are asked about or framed with Democratic Party talking points about "January 6th," Trump's campaign speeches, etc. on the program, but they didn't ask Victoria Nuland or John Bolton, on to condemn Tulsi Gabbard in November, any hard, anti-war or open government questions.  Even meeting with the 'awful' Assad is criminal and disqualifying, and the imperialist media seemed to prefer talk of who had the better nuclear missiles to Trump meeting with Kim Jong Un a few times.  Syria and Russia fighting Islamists was barbaric, but the US coalition fighting IS was fine, or Trump's fault, even if Syrian and Iraqi cities were left in ruins by both coalitions.  Syria ito be abhorred, but Israel and Egypt are okay, or maybe 'frustrating,' and US war crimes don't matter much, unless they can be pinned on Trump; both Trump and Biden are warmongering imperialists hostile to the Constitutional order. and "our democracy."  Israel, Turkey, and the US can seize Syrian territory and try to overthrow the government, but the last vestige of old great power imperialism and colonialism iRussia's involvement in Ukraine after the US-backed coup, followed by civil war.  "1A" said that Russia's only military bases outside of the former USSR are in Syria -- they could reflect on how many oversea bases the US has, in many casesurrounding Russia, China, Iran, and Korea.  They were upset on NPR about Russian and Chinese activity in the Arctic a few weeks ago.  Russia is an atavistic nuclear threat to the world, though the US iconstantly saying that "all options are on the table" and ispending many billions of dollars preparing for nuclear war, possibly as a first-strike or against a non-nuclear country, for convenience, and the US haprobably proliferated nuclear weapon technology.  My patience for NPR might have decreased with the election, and they recently had fundraisers, so I've avoided it, though their line has very noticeably changed on some things domestically.  Maybe they are afraid of funding cuts.  They stilserve Uimperialism abroad and national security state rule at home, though.  Zionists must complain about NPR and BBC coverage of Israel and related issues, but the coverage istilsoft and NPR seems to be avoiding coverage of Palestine, Lebanon, and Biden in recent months.  "1A" today didn't mention Middle East policy as a reason a Democatic Party-linked "friend" of Biden in Detroit is running to be the governor of Michigan as an independent.  And apparently Pete Buttigieg might run, but has he ever lived in Michigan? -- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_Buttigieg  Miles Parks at 4:29pm -- "fringe left" "election denial" in 2024.  "Election denial" was a Democratic Party activist and mainstream left position around 2000 and 2004, a time now 'memory holed,' if not banned, and denied.  It seemed plausible to me after 2004 and was out in the open in 2000, though it came out more after I read a book about it a few yearlater.  Loving (!) the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) Islamist militants on "All Things Considered" at 5pm, and now Ruth Sherlock (?) -- no more hesitation on NPR about praising the "rebels?"  Put drug smuggling on the Syrian and Venezuelan governments, never the CIA?  A US-backed "January 6th," is planned for Venezuela around January 10th, according to NPR recently.  Empowering AOC in Congress, with Jamie Raskin.  Will he deny the 2024 election?

["Morning Edition" on NPR, the BBC, etc. speak of the surprisingly or shockingly sudden advance of the militants, but the mainstream media supposedly keeps the public informed, so they are at fault if people here 'forgot' that there is a war in Syria.  The government's captive media are claiming that they did not see this coming.  Maybe the CIA and company saw it coming, if it is their rebellion to some extent, and this is another front of the war in the large Middle Eastern and Ukraine wars.  I think RT linked Ukraine to the war in Syria recently.  Some people are calling it a new world war, and WWII began as a few smaller wars in Asia, Africa, and Europe, but ended as a worldwide conflagration, and nuclear war.  Maybe more on the right the Cold War has been called the third world war, and now we can have fourth, and there is a new "far-right" ascendency.]

December 5th:  Claudia Tenney in the House and Tom Cotton in the Senate want the US government to call the West Bank the Israel firster supposedl"historically accurate terminology" "Judea and Samaria:"  legitgov.org/index.php/2024/12/06/republican-u-s-senator-introduces-bill-to-ban-federal-use-of-west-bank/

Black Alliance for Peace Welcomes Amnesty International’s Report on Genocide in Gaza

December 6, 2024 — The Amnesty International report unambiguously recognizing the barbaric assault on the occupied and oppressed people of Palestine and Gaza specifically as a genocide is a welcome departure from many of the tentative and unprincipled allusions to genocide without calling it genocide issued by a number of other human rights organizations and United Nations bodies, including the International Criminal Court.

According to Ajamu Baraka, director of the Black Alliance for Peace’s forthcoming “North-South Project for People(s)-Centered Human Rights, “The deliberate, systematic degradation and dehumanization of Palestinians resulting in the physical destruction of tens of thousands of Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children have all occurred right before the eyes of the world. As we watched the wholesale obliteration of their cities, refugee camps, hospitals, civilian infrastructure, cultural and religious sites, food storage facilities and schools, the starvation policy, blockage of medical supplies, murdering doctors and medical workers, torture chambers where prisoners are raped and tortured to death, the Western world not only turned away from the horrific suffering of Palestinians but rationalized and cheered it on. That is why we say that the racist crimes of the fascists in Israel are also the crimes of the “collective West,” who fled to protect the fundamental human rights of the Palestinian people,”

The Amnesty International report states that the government of Israel “imposed conditions of life in Gaza that created a deadly mixture of malnutrition, hunger and diseases, and exposed Palestinians to a slow, calculated death.” These actions by the Israeli regime correspond precisely with three of the definitions of genocide reflected in the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide; “a) Killing members of the group; b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; (c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.”

However, something significant about the Amnesty report is that it concludes that the actions by the Israeli authorities did not merely “appear to be genocidal” or “be perceived to be corresponding to genocide,” but declares definitively that there was “genocidal intent.”

“Palestinians are human and have human rights, but the vaulted “responsibility to protect” asserted by the liberal Western human rights industry and Western states was not executed to protect Palestinians. Why? The Black Alliance will say what the report and others will not say. The genocide being carried out by Israel and the United States is supported because the Palestinians have been racialized as non-white, and, therefore, “killable.” This crime is the crime of the century and makes all who did not actively oppose it, rationalized it, or voted for it, morally complicit” says Mr. Baraka.

The Black Alliance for Peace “North-South Project for People(s)-Centered Human Rights will launch on December 10, 2024.

BAJ Tue Dec 10 - Old and New Terrain in 2025

7:30 pm Tue December 10
at the Community Church of Chapel Hill
               106 Purefoy Road
      Balance and Accuracy in Journalism
                 meets to evaluate
            Our access to reality, 2024
As we approach old/new terrain in 2025

As people who have a habit of "lifting the lid to see what's inside,"
our efforts for responsible environmental decisions and local,
as well as international, cooperation can use some support.
Meeting this need, many internet media sources are cropping up.

We all remember the child’s revelation in "The Emperor's
New Clothes,” and the call to recognize what anyone
should be able to see.

It takes both experience and fresh starts to deal with
reckless mischief or unintended disaster, coming our way.
Does the public have a say?

Come Tuesday evening at 7:30 to share stories, ideas
and experiences in keeping up with key issues, and to
share news of local and regional groups working together.

Some of us have gone to Washington in groups, to
urge our representatives on such matters as ending
deadly conflict, and found the doors locked. A recent
note from Senator Budd indicates that his office ignores
petitions, looking instead at their internet portal for comments
and possibly the incoming phone calls.

You may turn as I do, to online sources, whether podcasts,
Youtube or Rumble.   Here are a couple of discussions
sharing insights on the sort of war and peace issues that spurred
our start, in 1991:

Pepe Escobar, seasoned international reporter, interviewed by Danny Haiphong:

Dennis Fritz is interviewed by Jeffrey Sachs on his book Deadly Betrayal,
on the pro-war cabal in the State Department, and how the US war on Iraq
was created.  Retired USAF Command Chief Master Sergeant Fritz
is director of the Eisenhower Media Network, and colleague
of our recent speaker Mathew Hoh, the projects associate director.
Fritz book is based on the innermost records and documents of the war on Iraq.

One of the most intractable issues today is the massive use of fossil fuels
for electricity generation, with Duke Energy funding deception and planning
expansion of fossil fuel use. NCWARN, with Carrboro NC and the Center
for Biological Diversity are making news this week with a lawsuit over Duke
energy's irresponsible policies.

Are the media that communicate with and among us
capable of serving our needs?  Come share what IS working.

ALSO:  The attached BAJ MEDIA HANDOUT offers clickable
addresses for promising sources.
Please send any access or feedback opportunities
that belong in the list!
