City Council meets Monday

There is a regular Council meeting coming up Monday at 7pm.  Since it is mainly considering citizen appointments to boards and approval of financial transactions and grants, I will just post a link to the agenda at www.durhamnc.gov/agendas/2008/cm_110308.cfm.  There will be a report on the pedestrian bridge to be built over 40 for the Tobacco Trail.  I've heard that Chatham County is now working on its section of the ATT, and then the old trestles need to be renovated and the trail will extend well south of Durham.  At a neighborhood level, a sidewalk will be put in on Sedwick Road in Parkwood, but it seems to me that it would be safe if cars were slowed down and a sidewalk is urgently needed along 54 between 55 and Woodcroft.  Just last Tuesday after dark I had to drive by a large group walking too close to the road and I didn't know they were there until I was pretty close, because of the traffic and glare from headlights.  It looks like 54 is being expanded there, and if a sidewalk is not included people will either not be able to walk to Homstead Market, and potentially contribute to Durham's greenhouse gas footprint, or they will walk on the road.
