PCOF: No to police violence and impunity!

Communique: No to police violence and impunity!

Once again, a youth has been killed by a police officer "for refusing to comply".

This happened in Nanterre on the morning of June 27 and the scene was filmed. It is circulating widely and invalidates the version that he was endangering police officers.

In 2022, 13 people were killed, for the same reasons: "self-defense" invoked by the police. As researchers who analyze this exploding phenomenon point out, it is in particular the 2017 law modifying the use of their weapon by the police that is at issue.

"Refusal to comply" does not give a license to kill, as several politicians and democratic organizations have rightly claimed.

The prefect of police in Paris says he is waiting for the results of the investigation and [he] refuses to condemn the act of the police.

For months, police violence has been multiplying, especially against young people in the neighborhoods. As denounced by the inhabitants of Nanterre, it has been more than a week that police controls and provocations have multiplied. This explains the anger of residents and young people in working-class neighborhoods who have already mobilized spontaneously.

We share this anger and call on the comrades and friends of Nanterre to participate in the rallies, demonstrations denouncing police violence against young people and solidarity with the victims and their families.

[Is there a connection to the brutality and killings carried out by the French police during the war in Algeria period, 1954  1962, and before that, to the Vichy government during WWII?]
