Upcoming political events

June 16th Rep. David Price is holding a town hall meeting to hear from his constituents June 16th at 7pm at the Museum of Life and Science.  I think GRIM is planning to lobby on impeachment.  I'll post more when things are more definite. He probably still needs to hear from progressive people about the Israeli-Lebanon war and other issues where he voted in such a reactionary way.

Water, drought, and class forum

How does money and class influence the local water
supply and drought response?  Are tiered water rates
progressive?  The Triangle Socialist Forum is looking
at these questions with guest Hope Taylor of Clean
Water for NC (www.cwfnc.org) at Durham's Southwest
Library on Thursday, June 26th at 7pm.  Southwest
Library is at 3605 Shannon Rd., near the old site of
South Square Mall, now a Target.

July 8th is the tentative date for the Planning Commission to decide on changes to the Unified Development Ordinance.  The text is online at www.durhamnc.gov/council/ord_changes/ and Julia Mullen is the person to contact with questions or comments (julia.mullen at durhamnc dot gov or (919) 560 4137 ext 255.

The runoff for Durham school board (and I think an office in Chapel Hill) and NC Commissioner of Labor is June 24th, but early voting started on the 5th.

A while ago I posted on the petition for chickens in the City of Durham, and that topic was on the front page of the Herald-Sun Saturday.  In other news the immigration issue is heating up in NC due to recent agreements between local law enforcement agencies and ICE and the community college controversy, with the result of weakening working class unity so that the capitalists have greater control over both native and foreign-born wokers.
